Independence Day
Mumbai, August 15: Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Auxilium Convent High School on Thursday, with students, staff, and guests joining together to honour the nation’s 78th year of freedom. The programme was held in Sr. Berta Hall which was graced by Ms. Aruna S. Birari, District Coordinator of the Maharashtra State Bharat Scouts and Guides, Dadar Shivaji Park, as the Chief Guest, along with Ms. Reshma Tanavade from Gokhale Education Society, Parel
The celebration began with a solemn prayer service, after which the Chief Guest hoisted the National Flag. The entire gathering stood in unison to sing the National Anthem, filling the hall with patriotic spirit.
In her welcome address, Head Girl Charvi Ahire introduced the dignitaries, who were later felicitated with eco-friendly potted plants as a token of appreciation.
A cultural programme followed, showcasing the diverse talents of the students. Highlights included a multilingual monologue on India’s freedom struggle, patriotic songs by the choir, an energetic dance performance, a socially relevant Hindi skit, and a conversation-based presentation by middle school students. Martial arts and discipline took the spotlight with a Taekwondo demonstration and a PT drill performed with precision.
The occasion also recognised academic and extracurricular excellence. Twenty-five Std. 10 students received cash prizes for their outstanding academic performance, while achievers in various competitions — including the Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition, NIE Seminar, Taekwondo tournaments, Anvikshanam Event, and Podar College contests — were also honoured.
Addressing the students, Chief Guest Ms. Aruna Birari delivered an inspiring speech on Women Empowerment, urging young people to set high goals and contribute positively to society.
Urvi Kadam (Std. 9) proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the day’s success. As part of the programme, Hindustan Times newspapers were distributed to students of Std. 9 and 10. Principal Sr. Gloria Ferrao highlighted the importance of reading newspapers to stay informed and aware of current affairs.The celebration left behind a spirit of unity, pride, and renewed commitment to the nation.
